Location:
Sucre State.
Area:
70,000 hectares.
Declaration:
Decree No. 1634 from 05 of June 1991.
Gaceta Oficial No. 34,987 of 17 June 1992.
Protected ecosystems and important natural attractions:
Forest and palm swamp, marsh grasslands, mangroves, estuarine and coastal environments.
Wildlife:
Among the mammals are the manatee (Trichechus manatus) and otter (Lutra longicaudis), among reptiles the anaconda (Eunectes murinus), the American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), the Orinoco crocodile (Crocodylus intermedius), among the birds chenchena (Hoatzin) and variety of fish.
Flora:
Mangle (Rhizophora mangle. Avicennia nitida, Laguncularia racemosa), Chaguaramas (Roystonea oleracea), radish water (Montrichardia arborescens); Simphonia globulifera.
Water resources:
Grooved pipes that drain into the Gulf of Paria.

Hunting. Commercial fishing. Removal of species of flora and fauna. Discharge of pollutants to watercourses. Sports competitions to concentrate large numbers of people. Carrying firearms or any other that may cause damage to natural resources. Expense and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Taking pictures or filming for commercial purposes without permission.
